DHEA: The Sexy, Anti-Wrinkle Hormone

The DHEA supplements I recommend can help restore the youthful qualities women and men lack due to hormone imbalance and low testosterone production. An excellent andropause and menopause treatment, natural hormone replacement with DHEA can help manage cholesterol and blood sugar levels and enhance libido, bringing passion back into the equation.

As DHEA levels in the blood increase through bioidentical hormone replacement, the body naturally converts the natural hormones into the necessary levels of testosterone. This slows the aging process and enhances overall physical health. Due to testosterone’s overall effect on the brain, increasing levels of DHEA in aging patients using natural hormones may also alleviate symptoms of depression.

At the extreme end of the spectrum, DHEA bioidentical hormone replacements succeed in enhancing total health and decreasing inflammatory incidences in patients afflicted with systemic lupus erythematosus, a chronic autoimmune disorder that results in inflammation of connective organ tissue.

How DHEA Works

DHEA (dihydoepiandrosterone), a natural neurosteroid produced in the adrenal glands, is among the most abundant hormones in the body. DHEA initially exists as cholesterol, and in a series of chemical reactions, is converted into an active state.

Subsequent reactions transform the molecule into its steroid derivative: Testosterone. DHEA builds health and promotes strength on many levels, but it is most effective in improving both men’s and women’s libido and sexual responsiveness.

Puberty and increased androgen production occurs in males around the age of 12, with a peak in DHEA levels during the mid-twenties, and a beginning decline around 35 years of age. Over the years, DHEA levels may potentially drop to 90% the original quantity. In both men and women, decreases in DHEA levels can cause health complications characteristic of the aging process.

In women, loss of sexual responsiveness and orgasms, loss of skin elasticity, bone loss, and mental fogginess result from diminishing DHEA levels. In men, symptoms such as fatigue, diminished libido, erectile dysfunction, and lower physical energy result. The amalgam of these symptoms in men is termed “Low-Testosterone Syndrome” and results from loss of testosterone, as well as, loss of DHEA.

Suggested Application:

Administered in daily doses, women require 5 to 25 mg each morning; whereas men require higher levels of 25 to 100 mg daily. DHEA supplements comes in both capsule or topical cream form, but as all production now comes only from China, we are very careful to recommend only pharmaceutical brands assuring the correct dose and the purest product.

Side Effects:

Side effects of ingesting or absorbing supplemental DHEA hormones are generally caused when a patient ingests more than they need. These symptoms may include hair shedding, acne, heart palpitations, and increased perspiration. Because DHEA is a prohormone of all reproductive sex hormones, there is a slight possibility that estrogen may be from DHEA. However, this is only a minor bleep on the screen compared to the goody-bag of benefits from this wonderful hormone.
